Houston Mesa Road Communities
Beaver Valley is a small community about 8 miles from Payson on the Houston Mesa Road. The East Verde River runs through the center of the community which is rich with well stocked fishing holes. This community is close to hiking, picnic areas, and just upstream from the popular Water Wheel day use area. The Beaver Valley Subdivision also features a grassy playground for children.
Mesa del Caballo is a community that sits on a mesa overlooking the East Verde River between Beaver Valley and Payson. Real Estate prices are lower here with easy access to the Verde River. The area offers about 800 properties that host a mix of everything from trailers to small homes to beautiful vacation homes. This a good community to look for real estate bargains.
Whispering Pines sits in the pines on the banks of the East Verde River along Houston Mesa Road about 13 miles from Payson. The community offers a variety of homes and lot sizes. Most of the homes in this area are second homes and homes owned by retirees that are situated on the creek which is regularly stocked with trout.
Just past Whispering Pines sits the community of Verde Glen. This community is situated about a mile upstream and features orchards with varieties of fruit trees that were planted by early settlers in the area. Verde Glen is more remote than the other area communities but sits on the well-maintained Houston Mesa Road. The homes here are along the creek and tucked in the trees.
East Verde Park and Flowing Springs
The East Verde River passes within just 5 miles of Payson where a string of communities line the river’s banks, including East Verde Estates and Flowing Springs. The communities here are on the river and surrounded by national forest. The subdivisions that line both sides of the river’s banks are a mix of modestly priced older cabins and newer homes. The river offers swimming holes and weekly trout stockings. The communities are popular because they are only 10 minutes outside of Payson yet offer a more rural riverside setting.
East Verde Park has about 300 homesites with about 200 having homes already built. Roughly one third of the residents are part time vacation homes while the rest are full time residents. East Verde Park is home to the popular Verde River Rock House Bed and Breakfast featured in Arizona Highways Magazine. Flowing Springs is a smaller community with 12 homes located down Flowing Springs Road and protected by a gate.
