Golf Week’s 2020 Rankings for the top 200 public and private residential golf courses are out and once again The Rim Golf Course at The Rim Golf Club community is near the top of the list. This year The Rim Golf Club came in as the 24th ranked residential course in the country based on their 10 ranking criteria. The Rim was the 2nd ranked course in the State of Arizona only behind Estancia in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The other notable showing among Golf Week’s ratings was one of The Rim Golf Club’s sister clubs which is also owned by Phil Mickelson and his agent Steve Loy, Stone Canyon, in Oro Valley, Arizona. Stone Canyon is the 33rd ranked residential course in the country for 2020. The Stone Canyon Club is part of the Mickelson Private Golf Corporate Membership along with The Rim Golf Club, The Golf Club at Chaparral Pines, Mcdowell Mountain Golf Club, Ocotillo Golf Club, and Palm Valley Golf Club. You can contact me for more membership information.
It should be noted that that looking at some of the courses ahead of the Rim it becomes apparent that year-round weather is not one of Golf Week’s rating criteria. They also do not consider course closures for over-seeding. Great weather and year-round golf just happen to be two of The Rim Golf Courses’ strong points as a residential course with an average year-round high temperature of 72 degrees and on only 4 days a year of closure for snow. Weather and course access are extremely important considerations when choosing to purchase a home in a golf community.
Nobody living at Martis Camp in Truckee, California in December is enjoying a round of golf more than those playing in the mild climate at the Rim Golf Club, because playing a round of golf at Martis Camp is probably not going to be an option in December. There is also no way I am preferring Estancia in Scottsdale, Arizona when it is 110 degrees in the desert during the months of June, July, and August over the cooler summer temperatures in the pines at The Rim Golf Course. Because of the mild climate in Payson, Arizona The Rim Golf Club also never closes for over-seeding. Add year-round weather and course access to the list and the The Rim Golf Course might just be at the top of the list.
