Shady Lane Estate is a neighborhood located among the pines on the north side of Fossil Creek Road in the Town of Strawberry. The town of Strawberry, Arizona is a small, quiet mountain community nestled in the trees about 13 miles north of Payson. Strawberry is surrounded by the Tonto National Forest and adjacent to the neighboring community of Pine, Arizona which is just south of Strawberry. The communities are often considered one.
At just over 5,500 feet of elevation, the area offers a mild climate with spectacular views of the Mogollon Rim. Restaurants are abundant in the Pine-Strawberry area when which also has its own brew pub. Mountain biking and hiking are also a big attraction here due to the region’s top-notch trails, picturesque scenery, and great weather.
The Town of Strawberry was named for the abundant wild strawberries that covered the forest floor when the area was settled in the mid-1800s. The town has a lot of old buildings and history including the Strawberry Schoolhouse which was established in 1885. It remains as the oldest schoolhouse in Arizona and provides tours from late spring through fall. Many of the other old buildings in the area have been transformed into businesses. Summer festivals among the rural ambiance add to the Pine-Strawberry appeal. The festivals kick off in May and continue through the fall.
